The impact of environmental aggressors on the skin

Environmental aggressors, such as pollution, UV radiation, and free radicals, can significantly damage our skin's health and appearance. Pollutants like dust, dirt, and chemicals can clog pores, disrupt the skin's natural barrier function, and cause inflammation. Prolonged exposure to UV rays can cause sunburns, premature aging, and skin cancer. Free radicals, unstable molecules, contribute to oxidative stress, accelerating aging processes and causing dullness, uneven tone, and loss of elasticity. Understanding these aggressors is crucial for developing effective skincare routines, such as using sunscreen with broad-spectrum protection or incorporating antioxidant-rich products. By understanding these factors, we can make informed decisions and maintain healthy, radiant skin.

Demodicosis: The great masquerader

Demodicosis is considered as a rare skin disease previously. The classical clinical presentations include papulopustules, nodules, cysts as well as follicular scales. However, there are still other less-known clinical features that imply demodicosis which is usually misdiagnosed as other skin diseases such as acne, contact dermatitis, or sensitive skin , hyperpigmentation, or enlarged pores. How to recognize clinical features of demodicosis is important. By the way, the utilization of simple and high sensitivity office-based examination method is essential for the dermatologist to early detect cases of demodiosis. It is crucial for clinicians to recognize this not-so-rare skin problem in clinical practice.
